Fostering Compassion in the Community: "Volunteer Wheelchair Experience Day"
Yesterday, ten of our Primary 4 to Primary 6 students visited the Sin Tin Toa Home for the Aged to participate in an enriching “Volunteer Wheelchair Experience Day" outreach programme.
For our students, this initiative served as a profound lesson in empathy and putting ourselves in other peoples’ shoes. In addition to mastering practical wheelchair handling skills from professional instructors, students also sat in the wheelchairs themselves to experience the world from a completely different perspective. The moment they turned the wheels with their own hands, they truly realised how challenging daily mobility can be for the elderly and those with physical challenges. It deeply opened their eyes to the critical importance of cultivating an accessible, inclusive, and barrier-free environment within our community.
Afterwards, our students demonstrated remarkable maturity as compassionate companions. They spent time engaging in meaningful conversations with the elderly and thoughtfully accompanied them as they enjoyed a delicious vegetarian feast together. Seeing the radiant, heartfelt smiles on the seniors' faces cultivated an atmosphere of profound warmth and intergenerational connection!
Experiential learning such as this plants the seeds of care, civic responsibility, and respect deep within our students' hearts. With their small hands and sincere companionship, they translated the spirit of "caring for the community" into real, impactful action, culminating in an exemplary lesson in Life Education!
