【International Cultural Exchange Learning Activity】
Tsing Yi Trade Association Primary School recently hosted faculty members and students from Concordia University Texas for a meaningful international cultural exchange. Following Principal Mak’s welcome speech, delivered remotely online from Sichuan, the event opened with impressive student performances of Wing Chun and a synchronised drone swarm display, drawing admiration from the American teachers and students.
A highlight was witnessing our English Ambassadors confidently lead the guests on a campus tour. Acting as tour guides, they introduced school facilities and curriculum entirely in fluent English, demonstrating the poise and warmth of our students. In the immersive English class, learners from both schools sat together, taking part in highly interactive activities and discovering the joy of language. During the tea art and calligraphy sessions, our students demonstrated brewing techniques and brushwork while explaining the aesthetics of Chinese culture in English, allowing guests to experience traditional Chinese culture amidst the fragrance of tea and the elegance of ink.
The dynamic exchanges between teachers and students of the two schools were equally engaging. On the pickleball court, students and American undergraduates formed mixed teams, competing amid cheers and laughter. The drone soccer programme seamlessly blended technology with sport, as participants worked together to navigate drones through obstacle courses, vividly reflecting the spirit of teamwork.
For our students, this exchange also became a valuable “living English lesson.” They eagerly gathered around the Texan teachers and students, asking about local cuisine, university life, and even American football. This not only allowed them to learn about the cultures of other countries, but also sharpened their listening and speaking skills in an authentic setting, gaining the confidence to use language to explore the world and express themselves.
The resounding success of the event was made possible by the enthusiastic participation of teachers and students from both schools. It is truly rewarding to see our students communicate naturally and confidently in English while building friendships between the two schools. In the future, the school will continue to create diverse international platforms, enabling students to grow in real-world language environments and become globally minded, effective communicators.
