On the third day, students returned to Chengdu Jiaozi Primary School in the morning for a variety of hands-on experiences and activities .

First, they visited the school’s smart farm to learn about medicinal herbs that have both culinary and medicinal uses grown on campus. Then, guided by their peers from Chengdu Jiaozi Primary School, they made wellness tea , traditional Chinese medicine herb refrigerator magnets , and even tried making botanical rubbings . Everyone truly enjoyed the process, and the finished creations were so unique and creative . After that, they toured the campus and participated in a Chinese language reading lesson *themed around mythology. They learned about the different “magical” elements in mythological stories and worked together to create imaginative myth stories full of wild ideas —gaining a lot in the process.

In the afternoon, we visited the Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Research Base. At the base, we toured the pandas’ “villas" and learned about their living environment . Students walked through the entire area and saw many pandas . Whenever they spotted them, students were extremely excited and quickly took out their cameras to record the moments . Besides the giant pandas, they also saw red pandas . Although the red pandas look completely different from the giant pandas, they were just as adorable !

In the evening, we watched a traditional Sichuan face-changing opera . The performance included multiple acts, including The Monkey King Sichuan opera , an animal shadow dance , a “Hundred Birds Pay Tribute to the Phoenix” suona (traditional woodwind instrument) performance , the traditional Sichuan opera lantern show Rolling Lanterns , and the highly anticipated face-changing performance . The programme was very rich and absolutely spectacular , and students stayed focused and fully engaged in the performances . They also learned about many Chinese traditional cultural performances with strong Sichuan characteristics .
